Show up promptly to view the property.  If you cannot make the scheduled appointment, please give the owner a courtesy call.

Ask to view a copy of the lease.  Read it thoroughly.

Ask lots of questions to make sure you understand the lease terms.  Can you sublet?  What about pets?  How much is first months rent?  Security deposit? etc.

Be upfront about who exactly will be occupying the property.  Just you?  Wife and Kids?  Grandma & Grandpa?

Be prepared to fill out an application if you are interested in renting the property.
